General

A. ALL PLAYERS MUST SIGN IN PRIOR TO PLAYING, INCLUDING YOUR GUESTS, IF ANY.

B. Membership at Gatewood entitles the parents and single children residing in the home to a membership. The child of an adult member who is nineteen years of age or older, but less than twenty-five, who in enrolled as a full time student in an accredited scholastic program will be allowed to participate as a family member. Otherwise, this person will need to apply for individual membership.

C. It is the responsibility of the sponsoring member to ensure that his or her guest observes all Club rules as to court usage, dress and behavior.

D. Apparel:Shoes – Only regulation (smooth sole) tennis shoes may be worn. Barefoot play is not permitted. Basketball, track, flip flops or other shoes with similar soles are specifically prohibited.We ask that everyone wear appropriate tennis apparel.Anyone violating these rules will be asked to discontinue play.

E. Court Lights: Those playing last upon the courts are responsible for turning off the lights.

F. Duration of play is limited to two hours if others have reserved the court and are waiting. During league seasons, this limit is 11⁄2 hours when matches are scheduled. See further discussion of League Tennis below.

G. WHEN PLAYING ON THE CLAY COURTS, PLAYERS MUST BRUSH AND LINE YOUR COURT WHEN FINISHED AND PLACE ALL EQUIPMENT BACK IN THE DESIGNATED AREA ON THE COURTS UNLESS TOLD OTHERWISE BY PRO SHOP STAFF.

H. If you drop your membership and decide to rejoin within a year, a reinstatement fee of $300.00 must be paid before your membership will begin. If it occurs more than once, a reinstatement fee of $500.00 will be required.

II. Policy Regarding Guest Visits

A. The member MUST sign his or her guest in at the front desk before playing. (First & Last name, legibly please). As mentioned above, ALL players must sign in prior to play commencing.

Guest fees are set at $10.00 per visit, junior guest fee is $5.00 (18 yrs and under). Property Owners may bring one guest per day with no charge.A guest is limited to 10 visits per calendar year, after which the guest may no longer play without becoming a member. The guest fee will be charged to the member bringing the guest if the member or guest does not pay upon signing in.The member accompanying the guest is responsible for notifying the guest when he/she has met the 10 visit limit (information regarding utilized visits can also be obtained by the member from the Pro Shop).

C. The member must accompany his/her guest to the tennis court. Guests may not sign in under a member’s name if the member is not playing tennis with the guest.

D. All children 10 and under must be accompanied at all times by an adult unless participating in an activity at the tennis facility.

III. Policy Regarding Court Assignments

A. The Tennis Director will schedule courts for Gatewood home matches prior to the start of each league season and will post this schedule in the Pro Shop.

  1. Gatewood members will be allowed to reserve courts for recreational play. Courts may be reserved for a maximum of two hours. During League seasons, the maximum will be 11⁄2 hours to ensure that matches begin on time.Members cannot reserve a court earlier than one week in advance. You must give 24 hour notice if you do not need the court you have reserved. The court will be released to others if it has not been claimed within 15 minutes of the scheduled time. If you do not show, you will be given a warning. After 3 warnings, your account will be charged a penalty of $25.00. This does not apply in the event of inclement weather.
  2. It is not permissible to tentatively reserve more courts than you are sure you will need. We must have a 24 hour notice before your court time if you will not need all courts you have reserved (i.e. Do not reserve 3 courts and then when you arrive, cancel one or two of the courts.). This enables the pro shop staff to schedule play that would otherwise be turned away due to lack of courts. If 24 hour notice of court cancellation is not received, you will be given 3 warnings after which your account will be charged a penalty of $25.00 for each excess court.
  3. Courts must be requested in the name of a person that will be playing on that court.
  4. No more than four courts will be guaranteed for any home match. A fifth team match may not reserve a court as a club member. However, if a court is available, the Pro Shop will allow the fifth match to go on.

IV. Policies Regarding League Play

A. At least 60% of each team’s roster must be comprised of Gatewood Members. All Gatewood teams are asked to allow Gatewood members with the appropriate rating, to play on the team first before asking non-members to play. Team captains must be a member of Gatewood. Contact the Tennis Director to identify potential members. If a team does not have enough club members to comprise 60% of the team, contact the Tennis Director for special consideration.

B. All non-members must pay an $100.00 fee to play on a Gatewood team. If a non-member plays in two or more leagues in the same season there will be an $100.00 fee for each team. This fee and an application form (see attached) must be collected by the Team Captain prior to the first match of the season, otherwise it will be billed to the Captain.

  1. Non-member fees must be collected prior to the first match. No non-member will be allowed to play a match at Gatewood until team fee is paid.
  2. Non-members that have paid their team fee are allowed to practice at Gatewood once a week with their teams with a two hour limit. Practices may begin three weeks before the first scheduled match and the last practice will be the week of the last scheduled match. If the team is going to State, the last practice will be the week of the State tournament. After this, regular guest policies would be in effect ($10.00 per play).
  3. The non-member is only allowed to play during team practice times (one time per week) and home matches. Clinic and practice afterwards in total is limited to 2 hours maximum.
  4. All tennis team rosters will be submitted to the Tennis Pro for review by the Tennis Committee. Any changes to the roster must be submitted to the Tennis Committee.
  5. Non-members may only play (Adult, Mixed, Combo and Singles) league in a twelve month period. After that, they must become a tennis member of Gatewood in order to play on a Gatewood team. At the end of this grace period, a non-member may join The Gatewood Club before the next season with no initiation fee. If the player chooses not to join Gatewood, he/she must sit out one year before being asked to play again on a Gatewood team.

C. Team practices must be scheduled with the Tennis Director and must be posted no later than the Monday morning before the practice date.

  1. No more than three courts will be provided for team practices.
  2. Team practices will last no longer than 2 hours, starting with the time of the scheduled court reservation.
