Manager’s Report

Sign Me Up!

While serving on the board is probably the most visible example of volunteerism in our association, there are many other ways that you can contribute your time and talents to improving our community.

Volunteer to serve on one of our eight committees:

  • Racquet Committee
  • Landscaping Committee
  • Architectural Control Committee
  • Roads, Street Lights & Signage Committee
  • Lakes & Dams Committee
  • Clubhouse Committee
  • Communications Committee

Your participation in the community is beneficial to you, your neighbors and the association. For example, common benefits gained by volunteering include:

  • Making a positive difference in other peoples’ lives
  • Sharing or learning new skills
  • Boosting your resume – volunteer jobs are fair game
  • Meeting new people
  • Having fun

Don’t let our community suffer from lack of enthusiasm. Even a few hours of your time can make a big difference in the culture of the community. Help us generate goodwill, encourage “paying it forward” and strengthen our community.

Fishing within Gatewood

Every year as the summer begins, we need to remind all residents of the fishing policies within the community.

Houses that are located around the smaller ponds have property ownership that extends out to the middle of the ponds. As a result, fishing is not allowed in these ponds unless you are fishing with one of these property owners on their property.

Community fishing is allowed on several sections of common parcels owned by the association. These are all located on the large two lakes. Maps are available in the Clubhouse which depict where these areas are located. Homeowners may access the two large ponds for fishing from common areas. For the big pond the common areas are located on Brookfield Drive by the gazebo, the common areas behind the clubhouse, and off the large pier on Gatewood Drive. On the smaller lake below the large dam, the common areas are the flat grassy area below the dam and along the edge of the pond to the small pier.

A concerted effort is going to be made to stop trespassing and unauthorized fishing. Trespassers will be warned at the first incident and will be prosecuted for additional incidents. Please call the sheriff ’s office 942-8600 to report a trespasser/unauthorized fishing. You may also call Wilson Bruce at 377-1016. Please remember that just as a member must accompany a guest to the tennis courts and the pool, guests must also be accompanied by a homeowner when fishing.

Your Curb Appeal Checklist

The curb appeal of our community depends on each resident maintaining his or her property as completely as possible. For those who keep their homes and yards well maintained, the association thanks you for your efforts and good examples. We encourage all residents to pay particular attention to the following maintenance items.

• Exterior paint. Paint is a quick and easy way to keep your property looking fresh, new and clean. It will also protect against corrosion, weathering and insects.

• Landscaping. Landscaping is extremely important to our community’s curb appeal. Please remove dead plants and branches. Keep shrubs properly pruned and flowers well- tended. Keep yards free of leaves and remove grass clippings.

• Roofs. Please ensure your roofs are properly maintained and cleaned regularly.

• Driveways and sidewalks. Please repair cracks, fill them and seal surfaces. Remove weeds from sidewalk joints and debris from driveways and sidewalks. Sometimes due to tree roots, sections will need to be cut out and patched.

• Gutters and downspouts. Please keep them cleaned out to prevent overflowing and flooding.

• Window boxes, awnings and decks. Please replace worn or damaged members, check fittings for stability and paint all items every year or two.

Thanks for keeping our community looking sharp.

No Solicitation Policy

We want to remind all residents that Gatewood has a “No Solicitation” Policy within our neighborhood. We have been made aware of a few recent offenders going door-to-door. If any resident experiences one of these offenders please politely inform them to depart as we have a “NO Solicitation” policy and call the clubhouse to report it. If possible, try to provide the name of the company and a telephone number if available.
