Manager’s Report

Major Projects are underway

Brookfield Drive Dam — Sperry Services is planning on beginning the upper lake dredging project August 8th. They also will be creating a sediment trap on the upper side of the road in Turkey Creek. Once done, the sediment trap will become a regular maintenance task that will require cleaning out at least twice a year.

To prepare for the dredging of the large lake, the water level will have to be lowered several feet. In order to do this, we will need to first lower the smaller (lower) lake water level in order that we can transfer the water being drained from the upper (larger) lake. Below is a tentative schedule for all of this activity.

• Week of July 11th we will begin lowering the lower lake at Tall Pines Trail

• Week of July 18th we will begin lowering the upper lake at Gatewood Drive

• Week of August 8th, Sperry Services will begin their work at Brookfield Drive

Once the project is complete, we will be dependent upon Mother Nature for rainfall and to help facilitate the filling of the upper lake.

The sediment that is removed from the lake will be distributed and graded in the adjacent area just above the gazebo. We have recently cut a number of trees along this bank and their stumps will be dug up. The Board foresees developing this area into a future desired amenity with a possible retaining wall and picnic shelter of such.

As discussed at the recent Annual Meeting, we acknowledge this effort will have aesthetic drawbacks while underway. However, it is imperative that it be accomplished to maintain the health of our waterways.

FIREWORKS – Caution! Caution! Caution!

Management and your Board of Directors would like to discourage you from using fireworks within the Gatewood Community. If you and guests feel shooting these are important, please do so down in the lower field below the main dam along Gatewood Drive.

MAILBOX MAINTENANCE

We would like to remind all residents of the importance of proper maintenance and upkeep of your mailboxes.

To keep your mailbox looking it’s best ~ cleaning every three months is recommended. A simple wipe down with a wet towel and cleaner is all you need. To help protect it from the elements and look new, car wax works well (Liquid Turtle Wax is a good choice).

Occasionally, a fresh coat of paint is needed for the post which often can accumulate algae, moss and rust from normal weathering. Thank you for helping us keep Gatewood looking nice!
