Inside the Gate – Spring 2024

In October of 1973, Gatewood Property Owners Association was incorporated, bringing years of planning and vision together with a natural wooded setting. On July 1, 1974, Gatewood Clubhouse and Amenities launched further transforming the landscape into a place to gather, play, and relax. Fifty years later, Gatewood Club & Community has crafted and maintained a reputation as the address for those who value beautiful serene settings, community, integrity, and value.

As we prepare to celebrate this landmark anniversary, we want to ensure our Property Owners that our number one priority is to still maintain the values this neighborhood was founded on as we move into the next fifty years. As a community, communication is paramount. With the launch of this issue, our monthly newsletter will be replaced with a quarterly edition, which will be mailed to all Property Owners & Residents, four times per year. These editions will feature what we hope will be useful information to keep each of you informed and connected as a community.

Moving forward, all members have the option to receive a weekly email with timely news and updates. We will limit additional emails to statements and urgent communication only. If you are not currently receiving these emails and would like to, please contact the Clubhouse at 864-223-6450 or membership@gatewoodclub.com. If you do not have access to email and would require a printed copy, please also contact the Clubhouse.

Gatewood FAQs

With over 250 homes and more than five hundred residents, sometimes things can be a little confusing and occasionally, misunderstood! Here are some of our most frequently asked questions to keep everyone “in the know”.

2. How can I pay my monthly bill?

We accept checks, cash, or credit card payments. If you would like to drop off your payment outside of office hours, we have a convenient and safe locked drop box right by the front door. We can also set up your account for automatic bank draft each month at no additional charge. If you would prefer to pay by credit card, we will apply a small $6.00 convenience fee to cover service charges. All forms can be found on our website, gatewoodclub.com or completed in the office.

Ready to make life a little simpler? Sign up for ACH Bank Draft payments, we will automatically withdraw your monthly dues and charges at no additional fee! Please contact the Clubhouse or download the form online and submit to the office. We are now offering the option to choose for payments to process on the 10th or 25th of the month! If you would like to begin receiving your statement online please contact the Clubhouse and we can make the change.

3. What are the steps to take if I would like to make a change or improvement to my property?

All requests for changes to your property but not limited to additions, new construction, pools, or any form of exterior changes including landscaping, painting, tree removal, etc. must be submitted to the ACC Committee for review. Applications & instructions as well as ACC printed guidelines, can be obtained from our community website or at the Clubhouse. Residents of The Gates or The Clusters must receive approval from your Regime before Gatewood ACC can review your request. For safety and timeliness, dead trees may be removed without submitting a request.

4. Can Racquet or Pool Members join the fun on Trivia Night?

Always! All of our Clubhouse Special Events are part of the perks of Membership. Please encourage our Non-Resident Members to participate!

5. What is the Policy for Guests?

Each household receives 20 FREE guest passes to be used between the pool or courts throughout the year. Each year on January 1, your passes will be renewed for the upcoming year. After you have exceeded your allocation, guest fees will apply. Guest passes are non-transferrable and visits are recorded in the office. Guest passes are a privilege of being a part of the POA and abuse will result in loss of passes. It is the responsibility of the Homeowner to sign in ALL guests. If Staff Members become aware of your guests and they are not signed in, the Staff Member must record the visit. Guests must ALWAYS be accompanied by a resident or member. The only exception to this policy is if you have an extended houseguest and submit a request. These requests can be obtained from the Clubhouse or on the website. A guest signing in at the Pool or the Courts under a Member number without the Member present will be asked to leave and may be charged the current guest fee. Some exceptions apply with guests at the Pool with Residents & Owners, please see the Pool Policy on our website for more information. If you have any additional questions, please contact the Clubhouse.

6. Will the Restaurant Ever Re-Open?

For years Gatewood was known for its exclusive dining and delicious Southern-style food. Unfortunately, as Greenwood grew, the number of restaurants also grew, leaving Gatewood behind. The decision to close the doors to the kitchen also meant the removal of all the cooking equipment, which would be quite expensive to replace. Presently, we are working towards the goal of offering a well-equipped space for our caterers to make their final touches. While we cannot make any promises, we haven’t completely ruled out food service further down the road. In the meantime, we will try to have special occasions where we can celebrate with friends and food service following DHEC guidelines.

Resident Information: Gates

Each Resident and New Property Owner is automatically entitled to 2 gate entry cards upon joining the community. These cards will grant entry to the front and back gates, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

During Pool season, the cards will also serve to allow entry into the Pool area. Replacement cards or additional cards are available at the Clubhouse for $5.00 per card.

Gate Remotes are available with a $40.00 deposit per unit and will be billed to Members’ monthly statements.

Billing has been inconsistent in the past for these items and for that we do apologize. Moving forward we anticipate these items will be handled more efficiently and any missing charges will be applied on March or April’s billing cycle. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.

In addition to entry cards or remotes, access may be granted with a 3-digit Household Identification Number (this is NOT your member number) entered into the Gate keypad. If you do not know this number, please call the Clubhouse and we can provide it for you. It can also be located in the directory

Please ensure we have a recent phone number as your gate point-of-entry contact directory. Upon the number being dialed, when you answer simply dial “9” on your phone and the gate will open.

If you have the gate linked to your cell phone and are unable to gain entry with the card/remote, simply call yourself from the directory (not the keypad) and dial “9” from your phone and the gate will open.

Fishing At Gatewood

Residents, Property Owners, and guests (required to be accompanied by a Member) are permitted to fish from the

common areas on the two large ponds. This includes Brookfield by the gazebo, the common areas behind the Clubhouse, and the large pier on Gatewood Drive. In addition, they may fish from the smaller pond below the large dam, the common areas are the flat, grassy areas below the dam and along the edge of the small pier.

There are no common areas along any of the other Gatewood ponds and fishing is restricted unless by the owner of the area. If you are a resident and someone is fishing in your yard without your permission, please call the Sheriff’s office at 942-8600.

Please do not approach strangers in an effort to stop trespassing as there have been instances of homeowners being involved with unpleasant or confrontational trespassers. Also, we do not wish to mistake residents for trespassers, which could also cause difficulties.

All residents who enjoy fishing are encouraged to pick up a sticker from the Clubhouse to display on their vehicle, golf cart, bike, or even tackle box. This will help to quickly identify our authorized fishing members.
