You Can’t Miss This!!!
Gatewood Racquet Committee with support from the Club House and Social Committees will be hosting the first ever Community Pickleball extravaganza on Saturday May 21, 2022 starting at 8 to 8:30 sign up for play.
Participants will be Gatewood property owners, Club Members, their invited guests, and we also are inviting members of Greenwood Country Club and Stoney Point Country Club.
Our goal is not only to grow Racquet Sports in Gatewood, but to showcase how beautiful, friendly, and supportive our community is.
What you can expect:
- A tennis drill exhibition by Paul, Casey, Harper, and Lauren. Everyone needs to experience this greatest show on clay. Exhibition starts at 12 on tennis court 6. Paul will then introduce a new game on Pickleball court 2, played on Pickleball courts, called Pop Tennis.
- Based on attendance, food trucks will be on site from 11 – 2. In addition, we welcome those who would like to share a snack, appetizer, or drinks, etc.
- Calhoun’s will be open at 5 pm for those who want to further their trash talking, experience our new social digs, or just to socialize. *Club members are welcome to bring guests, but a Club Member’s number must be used, as no cash is allowed.
How is Pickleball Day going to work?
- For those who have never played Pickleball
or would like to know more about the game, instruction will be available. One does not have to play to learn the game. If you have no paddle, no worries. A paddle will be provided. Please wear sneakers. - A rating sheet, based on skills, will be posted outside the tennis pro shop for all to see how Tennis and Pickleball players earn their ratings.
- For those who want to play Pickleball there will be two options, starting play at TBD. Sign up will start at 8:00- 8:30 at the table in front of the tennis pro shop.
- Competition – there are those who want to compete for bragging rights as Pickleball champions of Gatewood. Choose a partner. We will have brackets, found at
the tent on the table between the hard courts, and the contest will be double elimination: winner’s bracket and opportunity bracket. First, second, and third places will be announced on site, as well as published, with a picture, in our monthly newsletter. - Round Robin – Have fun and meet new people – sign your name on a sheet at the tennis pro shop. Each game you will be paired with a different partner. All skill levels welcome. A pairing sheet and court assignment will be on the table under the tent between the hard courts. This will help you to determine with whom you will play and which court.
